ISO/IEC 42001 standard

Target audience

The standard is aimed at any organization using or developing artificial intelligence, regardless of its sector of activity or size.

It aims in particular to:

  • master AI-related risks,
  • guarantee system reliability,
  • protect data and users,
  • strengthen stakeholder confidence.

Rquipe d’audit

Audit team systematically including an expert mastering the sector’s profession and regulations.

Specifics

ISO 42001 is based on a management approach similar to other ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 27001…), with specific requirements for AI.

The main areas are:

Gouvernance de l’IA — the organization must define an AI policy, clear responsibilities, and a supervision and control framework.

AI risk management — the standard requires the identification of algorithm-related risks, bias analysis, assessment of ethical, regulatory and operational impacts, and continuous monitoring of AI systems.

Lifecycle management — the organization must oversee the development, deployment, maintenance and decommissioning of AI systems.

Implementation and benefits

Implementing an ISO 42001-compliant system generally involves:

  • an analysis of existing AI uses,
  • a risk assessment,
  • the definition of adapted governance,
  • the formalization of procedures,
  • the implementation of audits and monitoring indicators.

Certification notably allows to:

  • demonstrate mastery of AI risks,
  • guarantee regulatory compliance,
  • strengthen the confidence of clients and users,
  • promote a responsible and ethical approach.
